THE cat is now well and truly out of the bag.
After more than 20 years as the owner of this publication, Taylor Group Media will no longer have control of The Bunyip once the sale of the company to SA Today goes through in a few weeks’ time.
A heartfelt thanks needs to go to Ben Taylor for finding a buyer for this publication that matches his passion for regional news.
The decision to sell to an already established media company means that the people of Gawler and surrounding areas will continue to have a news outlet dedicated to keeping them informed.
It is important to outline what this means to the readers and the wider public.
In short, very little will change.
The paper is set to remain weekly, coming out each Wednesday to all the familiar vendors.
The staff community members have become accustomed to will be the same, including the editorial voice each week.
A host of internal processes will be changed up, but by and large The Bunyip Gawlerites have come to know will remain the same, if not an improved version.
The team now has the backing of a broader network which should result in greater support and more resources.
This will hopefully lead to broader and more thorough coverage in the backyard of readers.
In short, despite what the sold sign on the building and change of ownership could generate in terms of pub chat and water cooler rumours, the ‘Yip is well and truly here to stay.
It might look a little different and eventually move house, but the paper remains strong and dedicated to giving the north the coverage it deserves.
