Time warp

WITH due respect, I feel obliged to reply to Tim Barritt of Lyndoch’s sad diatribe and comments (“Thoughts and prayers, Lyndoch” – Letters, The Bunyip, July 3 2024).

Apparently, it seems he would prefer us to still be in the night cart days; progression and development have occurred since time immemorial, mostly to our advantage.

I believe Mr Barritt’s exaggerations are, at best, only equalled by his lack of research and knowledge surrounding the redevelopment of the Lyndoch sporting centre.

Commentary surrounding the security fence provides an excellent example.

The fencing is present only to protect the general public from possible danger and injury while construction is under way.

Upon completion of the development, the temporary fencing will be removed to allow access to all.

Sporting activity is a major focus in all country towns.

Lyndoch is no different and has a rich and successful sporting history.

The benefits arising from this amazing sporting centre are immeasurable.

Any major events held at the new centre will cause no more inconvenience than a Tour Down Under event or car rally festival weekend.

Has Mr Barritt failed to take note of the Barossa Helicopter charter flights being conducted from his precious hometown?

They come and go, upsetting no one, including, it would seem, Mr Barritt.

As for ‘changing the nature, character and living amenity of our wonderful historic town’, did Mr Barritt feel that way at the time of building the now demolished club and changing rooms?

The equivalent number of trees will replace any that have been removed.

Mr Barritt, I suggest that you re-visit your attitude towards this upcoming incredible facility, gifted to Lyndoch, and find a way of joining in and volunteering your services after the completion date.

Get on board.

Richard Harris, Gawler
