I WRITE in gratitude to Town of Gawler council and commend them most highly for their courage, it seems, to rebuild the historic Pioneer Park wall.
Yes it comes with a hefty price tag but I believe that council members really have done their due diligence in investigating all options as custodians of South Australia’s first country town.
We are unique as a township and it’s easy to forget our heritage and history, especially if we allow it to crumble to dust.
We were well down that path already, but visibly trying to go in the right direction.
I was dismayed, therefore, to see the petulant opposition to this project in the form of a letter in The Bunyip the following week.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, however, to see that the letter writer was a regular contributor to the paper and was just blowing the usual hot air that he seems known for.
This letter writer and habitual critic should take care that his own historic contribution doesn’t become any more memorable than that of the whoopee cushion (and much less fun).
