Take part in zoning discussions

THE Barossa Region Residents’ Association has been asked by numerous residents what our position is regarding the recent suggestion from council about re zoning rural land to large scale tourism accommodation; a point also raised in the Barossa Council’s current feedback opportunity, now extended for comment by community members until 5pm on May 1, 2024.

First and foremost, the Barossa Region Residents’ Association’s position is to continue to strengthen the Character Preservation Act overlay.

This important legislation advocates generations of hard work from the community and a unified vision that has sup- ported the last 40 years of economic prosperity and hundreds of millions of dollars of investment.

It has also helped to guide appropriate development, while protecting the rural zones of agricultural lands.

In response to the opportunity for community feedback on a few areas of the Growth and Infrastructure review, the Barossa Region Residents’ Association feels any changes from land zoned Rural to Tourism Accommodation sets a dangerous precedent and sits in opposition to the plan that has gained the Barossa global respect as a premium wine region.

Out of interest, do you know there are actual zones in the existing plan for large scale tourism accommodation?

For example, the zones for appropriate tourism development in the township of Tanunda.

By strengthening and clarifying the plan and the vision for the region, with foresight and a long-term approach, we can make sure the Barossa continues to grow our premier status and elevate our return on investment from the agricultural lands, both economically and socially.

The Barossa Region Residents’ Association will continue to honour the past by protecting its future, advocating for a united vision through a clear and well considered plan, underpinned by always valuing the rural agricultural, native lands and community interests first.

The Barossa Region Residents’ Association will always advocate to protect all zoning of rural lands.

If you agree on our position and support the view that rural lands should not be re zoned for large scale tourist accommodation, take part in the Barossa Council’s community feedback opportunity and become a member of the Barossa Regional Residents’ Association to strengthen the community’s voice on issues that can undermine our way of life and our home.
