Make smart choices on our roads

DURING the entire year of 2022, there were a total of 71 fatalities on South Australian roads.

This year, as of current SAPOL data on September 25, 2023, we are already at 85 road fatalities, and we have a long weekend coming up.

Last week, two Gawler and surrounds residents passed away due to separate fatal crashes; both died at the scene.

Without knowing in-depth context or circumstance regarding each crash that occurred, making wise choices when it comes to getting in your car, motorbike or truck is what will stop the rise of our road toll.

And if you do choose to pick up your keys and hit the road, do so in the safest manner possible.

SA Police Senior Sergeant Rob Mowday got in touch with us here at The Bunyip, wanting to voice concern due to the upcoming long weekend, as these times often partner with road related tragedy.

Gawler and SA Police have said they aren’t going to tolerate any road safety breaches and are not holding back when it comes to those doing the wrong thing.

Those breaking the law, speeding, driving while intoxicated or under the influence, or ultimately creating unsafe conditions on our roads, shouldn’t be shown any mercy.

Two Gawler families have lost fathers, brothers, uncles, dear friends and sons.

No one else in our region, or any other, wants to lose a loved one in a situation that could have been prevented.

Stay home if you’ve been drinking, don’t hop in your car if you aren’t in the right frame of mind to do so, stick to the speed limit and be considerate of others.

It could mean someone’s life if you aren’t.
