Expand tourist train study

EXAMINING ways to improve transport in our region for both locals and tourists alike is always welcome, that’s why I support the feasibility study looking into a potential private tourist train coming to the Barossa.

Knowing that transport is a key issue for many in our region it makes sense for the Labor Government to expand this feasibility study to also look at whether a public passenger train to and from the Barossa would be viable.

It’s worth examining, given taxpayer resources are already being used to look at what would be needed for a private tourist train.

One of the big challenges we will have over the next decade is the extraordinary pressure on infrastructure and services as a result of recent news that 10,000 new homes will be built in Concordia within the Barossa Council, accommodating nearly 25,000 new people.

Given these homes and people are going in right next to the train line, the government should at the very least have a look at what infrastructure upgrades would be required for a passenger train.

Now is the time to see if it stacks up. Ashton Hurn MP, Member for Schubert
