Remembering Merilyn Nicholson

I WOULD like to acknowledge the passing of ex-Councillor Merilyn Nicholson.

Merilyn was a councillor from 2014-2018.

During that time Merilyn showed herself to be an outstanding representative of Gawler people and a strong decision maker. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Merilyn as she was strong, capable and a hard worker.

Once she made up her mind on matters, she stuck to her guns. There was no rolling over. Even so, Merilyn listened to arguments, and I always found she came with an open mind to council debates.

One of the more memorable moments was at the fundraising dinner for our war memorial where we both decided to bid on the wonderful Malcolm Richards paintings of Max Fatchen.

We then donated them to the Council.

On behalf of Gawler Council, we will miss her dearly and send condolences to her family.

Karen Redman, Gawler Mayor
