The Bunyip turns 160

ON Tuesday, September 5, The Bunyip will turn 160 years old.

To help celebrate the occasion, former Printing Manager Peter Ashcroft and I are planning to publish a book containing a number of stories from my former column, ‘Around the Block with Martin Johnson’ (1997-2003), featuring well-known local characters.

Because it is now 20 years since my last column appeared, I am publishing this in the hope of contacting family members of the person(s) I wrote about.

I am doing this to find if they are happy for a family member’s story to appear in a book, and to keep them informed of the book’s progress and eventual launch date.

Here is the list of names, in order of appearance in the book:

Jack ‘Gum’ Allen; Briant Mahoney; Vern ‘Bun’ Finch & Sylvia Finch; Graham ‘Rosco’ Shannon; Lance Bewley; Graham ‘Wacka’ Dawe; Freda Couche and Fayette Thomas; Trevor McGahan; Gordon Lewis; Doris and Roy Bullock; Muriel March; Ron Norman; Erica Bott; Arthur ‘Snow’ Causby; Brian Barton; the Barnet Family; Tom (Doug) Ronan; Cliff Lucas; Max Duldig; Lil Crosby; John Ashcroft; Bob Bennet; Thelma (T.O.C) Callahan; Doug Rau; Alan Chivall and Jack Hibbard; J.R. (Roy) Olafsen; Llyod Chapman; and Lloyd and Dawn Modra.

My contact for any information is youngandjohnson@bigpond.com or via phone on 0467 449 292.

Thank you.
