Congratulations AgTown of the Year finalist

CRYSTAL Brook, Kapunda, Mypolonga, Orroroo and Waikerie have all been selected as finalists for the 2022 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year.

The award was launched almost four years ago by the former Liberal Government as a way of highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in regional communities, with Cleve on Central Eyre Peninsula taking out the inaugural title in 2019.

This year’s five finalists were selected from 54 nominated towns across the state after more than 4000 public votes were cast.

The award is a wonderful way to highlight South Australian towns excelling in agricultural practices and the flow-on effect they have on communities.

Every town nominated for the South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year award should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

The former Liberal Government introduced this award to acknowledge towns supporting and promoting agriculture, so we’re pleased to see the current government is continuing to celebrate our Ag Towns in this way.

It’s fantastic to see a diverse range of finalists vying for the title this year, representing different aspects of agriculture.

Incredibly Kapunda has been a finalist every year since the first award in 2019.

Orroroo and Mypolonga have also been finalists before and it’s wonderful to see Crystal Brook and Waikerie as new additions to the top five this year. Agriculture is the backbone of the state’s economy, so it’s important to recognise and consider the importance regions play in all of our lives.

I wish all finalists the very best of luck.

The 2022 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year will be announced on Friday, November 4.

Nicola Centofanti,

Shadow Minister for Regional South Australia
