IN relation to council’s selection of street murals as depicted in last week’s The Bunyip (“Murals selected in Gawler’s new art movement”), I find it somewhat difficult to find the relevance of the Angle Vale bridge to the Town of Gawler and the community.

Gawler, through council, has always had a strong focus on its heritage and history and actively promotes this.

Gawler has so many icons that could be drawn upon and promoted, namely the James Martin Locomotive Factory, May Bros with the stripper/harvester, the Eagle & Phoenix foundries, the early flour mills, the original swing-walk bridge over Dead Man’s Pass, to name a few.

What about Whinnen’s Old Store shop, which was sited within metres of where the mural is to be located, in Whinnen’s Lane.

We in Gawler should be proud of our heritage and see local images depicted that we all recognise as part of Gawler’s history. Please reconsider.

Gavin Launer,
Gawler East
