GAWLER – starved of its Christmas
carols last year – will be treated
to a musical event this month,
with the local Apex Club to host
the Gawler Apex Music Festival.
The free event, sponsored by Santos
and Gawler Council, will be at
Princes Park, Gawler Showgrounds,
on Saturday, May 22.
The line-up includes Wilburies
Twist, Emerauld, Acoustic Juice,
Taylor Brown and Mangrove Jack.

Rhodes said there would also be
market stalls around festival area –
and there were still spots available.
“There’s still plenty of room for
new markets to come on board at
the moment,” he said.
“We’ve got five or six food vans
lined up.
“The music festival has a 1pm
and 5pm session and both go for
three hours.
“In between session one and session
two, we’ll do a clean-up of inside
the marquee, so we’re COVIDsafe.”
Mr Rhodes said the event received
the green light after the cancellation
of the Gawler Christmas
Carols last year. The festival also
scored a $10,000 stimulus package
from council, which was approved
at last month’s council meeting.
“It came about because of COVID
last year; we didn’t do the Gawler
Christmas Carols,” he said.
“That was a council-sponsored
event. So council has held the money
over and that’s how can we be
doing this event here, a music festival,
with the money from the 2020
Gawler Christmas Carols.
“Markets open up at 1pm and
close at 8pm. They’re around the
festival so you’ll be able to hear the
music while you’re actually in the
markets.
“Council have put stimulus money
into us as well as the money that
we normally get through the carols.
We’re really happy with the
council and the way that
they’ve supported
us and we’re able to
get events happening
again in these trying
times.”
