Pair of crashes on Port Wakefield Highway

IN the midst of National Road Safety Week, two serious crashes occurred on Friday morning on Port Wakefield Road at Two Wells.

The first occurred prior to 5am on Friday May 16, when police and emergencies services were called and dispatched to the highway near the intersection with Port Gawler Road following a crash between a car and a truck.

When these services arrived, the driver of the car was found trapped, with fire crews working quickly to get them out and airlift the driver to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The truck driver, a 30-year-old Mallala man, was uninjured following the incident and is currently assisting police.

A second crash occurred several hours later north of the initial incident at the intersection of the highway and Brooks Road.

Road closures and diversions are now in place as both incidents are investigated further, with South Australia Police (SAPOL) providing updates via its Facebook page www.facebook.com/SouthAustraliaPolice

“Southbound traffic on Port Wakefield Highway is being diverted onto Brooks Road,” a SAPOL comment read at 8.19am.

“Northbound traffic south of Brooks Road is blocked due to the separate scene.

“Road users are asked to completely avoid the section of Port Wakefield Highway between Virginia and Two Wells, if possible.”

Anyone who witnessed the first crash or has dashcam footage has been encouraged to contact police.
