Measles health alert for the north

A HEALTH alert has been issued by SA Health after a one-year-old male was confirmed to be the latest case of the measles.

The alert lists a number of locations across the northern suburbs where the disease might have been exposed.

These locations span through Munno Para, Tanunda, Gawler, Evanston, Elizabeth and Freeling.

Anyone who isn’t fully immunised, particularly those who were at the locations, would be alert for symptoms over the next few weeks and should see a doctor if they become ill.

Symptoms of measles start with fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a blotchy rash which usually begins on the head and then spreads down the body.

If someone believes they have symptoms, it is advised to contact a doctor before an official visit so precautions can be taken to avoid spreading the infection to others.
