IT HAS been a busy time for The Bunyip office this month, with the Gawler community ramping up for the Christmas and summer season.
The hot weather has also bought some changes to the office, as we farewell our journalist Ellouise Crawford, who has been working with us for almost 14 years, and Megan Rees who worked with our marketing team.
Our editorial team are also happy to announce we have found a new editor who will lead us in bringing the news that matters most to our community in the New Year.
Ben Lennon will be making his way from The Murray Pioneer in Renmark to our office here in Gawler this December- if you see him down Murray St, be sure to make him feel welcome!
The end of November also brings the end of many local student’s time at High school, as the school year wraps up and Schoolies begins.
Year 12 students across the country are embarking on their well-deserved trip with friends and classmates to celebrate the end of their time at school.
However to make the most of Schoolies, it’s important our youngsters are reminded of strategies to keep themselves safe, especially around the heat, on the roads and alcohol use.
The Alcohol and Drug foundation have released some simple tips and tricks to take care of yourself and your friends while partying it up.
These include keeping in contact with your friends and sharing your movements with someone you trust, looking out for your mates if they leave a party early to make sure they make it back safely, having a meet-up spot within your group in case someone loses contact, keeping track of your belongings and to know that it’s ok to say no to any situation you are not comfortable with.
Schoolies is a time to have fun and enjoy your newly found freedom, but it’s also a great opportunity to refresh ourselves with some important skills to stay safe over the summer holiday.
For students, the community and staff at The Bunyip, big things are coming for the end of 2023.
