Raising funds for children in need

A SUCCESSFUL high tea full of fellowship and fundraising was held at the Truro oval complex on Sunday, November 20.

Hosted by the Friends of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital – Greenock Auxiliary, with the fundraising goal to provide the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with equipment to enrich patient comfort and staff efficiency.

A delicious high tea, catered by the team of 15 Greenock Auxiliary members and friends, nourished the crowd of 60 as they participated in a silent auction, raffle and lucky squares.

Guests were moved to hear stories shared by Sarah Schiller and Lisa Werner of the health journeys of their sons. Archie Schiller was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (Aortic Valve Stenosis) at three weeks of age.

Multiple surgeries later Archie continues to be monitored by the Women’s and Children’s Hospital team.

He is an enthusiastic sportsman and can often be found in his cricket whites on a Saturday morning.

Adam Werner was diagnosed with brain Cancer (Intracranial Sarcoma) weeks before his seventh birthday.

Surgery removed the mass and Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy followed, to help prevent future re-growth of the tumour.

Adam is happiest when helping on the farm or planning his latest mechanical creation.

We would like to thank our generous sponsors for prizes and goods donated, assisting us in raising over $3700.

Thanks also to those who travelled from near and far to attend. We are delighted to see many new faces joining our Auxiliary and will always welcome willing hands to improve our fundraising efforts.
