Light abandoned

Sir,

I have to concur with writer ‘Gary of Gawler’ (Bunyip, Wednesday 14th January, 2026) about the curious phenomenon of individuals suddenly deciding to represent an area they have no connection with.

The current Member of Light is a perfect example.

Abandoning Light after years and calling himself the “Labour Duty Member for Frome” (still no explanation as to what this means) while writing his letters on ‘Light’ letterhead paper.

His only connection to the area is a post office box in Kapunda.

Is Labour trying for a clean sweep of the State?

His documented conduct toward Roseworthy in particular, has proven him to be fickle indeed.

Either way, he has shown his lack of knowledge of the electorate of Frome (soon to be Ngadjuri) in The Bunyip, Wednesday, 17th December, 2025.

In an interview on page 4, when talking of a transport survey, he refers to “residents across six northern suburbs ………..in Kapunda, Freeling, Roseworthy, Mallala, Two Wells and Lewiston”.

We are not northern suburbs Mr. Piccolo!

We are still rural areas of which 3 are Adelaide Plains and 3 are Mid North.

Or do you know something that you are just not passing on?

As for the survey itself, firstly, it does not allow for anonymity (where are you going to store this personal information and why do you need it?) and secondly, the only question of any substance is about disability which you do allow “prefer not to say”.

This would be the question of any real importance, yet it is relegated to the bottom of the page being the last question.

Finally, the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (GARP), #1 and #2 have all covered transport needs with associated statistical data.

The Member for Light has access to this information as does the public and developers alike.

The only difference being developers make no financial contribution while the public pay for it through taxes.

As the State election draws near, beware of politicians making promises because it can change in a heart beat.

DK Harvey, Roseworthy
