The Hope Cup is a winner

SUNDAY’S Hope Cup at Sandy Creek’s picturesque Curdnatta Park was a great day out, and it was heart-warming to see the community come together for a good cause.

Raising close to $20,000 for those who need it most is an incredible achievement for a community event, and all involved should be very proud of what they have accomplished the last couple of years.

The highlight of the on-field action had to be a spectacular caught-and-bowled by Gawler & District College deputy principal Craig Brown, but there were great efforts from a variety of characters.

Councillor Ethan White was a jet in the field, The Exchange Hotel’s Damian McGee took two wickets in an over, and the Police XI ended up prevailing in a close run chase, reaching the 168-run target with less than three overs to spare.

There was some talk on the day about potentially moving to a bigger venue in the future, but Curdnatta Park is one of the prettiest sporting grounds in the state, and has done a fine job elevating the worthwhile event.
