But police officers play an extremely important role in our community, despite the flack they may be on the receiving end from.
They are there to keep us safe in the moments when we need it most, and often for very little recognition.
Senior Constable Gary Wills is a testament to that, working to break the cycle by getting our town’s young people on the straight and narrow.
Hearing him talk about the pride he has for our youths who have flipped a negative into a positive is truly endearing, and is a testament to his character.
It would be fair to say that for most of us, one of the most common things we wanted to be growing up was a police officer.
But it takes a special breed to pursue that as a career path, and Snr Const Wills is the prime example of that.
That’s clear to see in the way he is talked about by not only his peers, but for those young people in town who he has helped.
It’s the people like Snr Const Wills that make this town what it is, and if you look hard enough, you’ll find plenty of people in the background pursuing the same goal – making Gawler the best place to live and work.
