SOMETHING I experienced growing up in the northern suburbs was the instant shame that came with telling someone you lived at or anywhere near Elizabeth.
The suburb has gained a certain reputation of being a place to avoid.
But one look through Playford’s past, and you’ll find a treasure trove of community spirit.
Having lived in Playford my whole life, Elizabeth was, and still is, my stomping ground.
The suburb is home to iconic Playford imagery such as the Aquadome where I learnt to swim, venues like Shedley theatre and the Northern Sound System where I’ve seen local acts perform since I was a child, and Elizabeth Bowland, Tunzafun and Reading Cinema where I’ve had countless birthday parties growing up.
I no longer want to be shy telling people I grew up around Elizabeth, when the suburb has proven itself as one of South Australia’s most iconic.
