Young star graces Gawler track
1 min read

AS part of South Australia’s Anzac weekend of racing, Gawler had some very talented horses greet the judge on Sunday, with none more impressive than three-year-old filly Almadrava.
In her first race for new trainer Phillip Stokes, the galloper stormed clear in race three, winning by over four lengths as an odds-on favourite after an impressive trial earlier
this month garnered some attention.
Jockey Kayla Crowther had a comfortable ride, and was never threatened after turning onto the home straight.
“She won that well and quite easy,” Crowther said.
“When asked, she just went through her gears like a very good horse does.”
Crowther also rode exciting debutant Skilled Bunch, who came from last to run second in an encouraging display.
After winning comfortably at Gawler on Sunday, April 19, With Pleasure backed up that effort with another dominant performance, making it three wins in 11 days after apprentice jockey Maggie Collett steered him to victory of over six lengths.
Collett, who suffered a dislocated shoulder at the track two Sundays ago, showed real courage after a surprisingly quick recovery, and allowed With Pleasure to roll along in front before kicking away with ease.
With plenty of rain overnight Saturday, the track raced exceptionally well and all horses were provided a winning chance during the day.
Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club chief executive Shane Collins made a point to thank locals for the support the club has received in trying times.
“While racing does an amazing job and continues still without crowds, the local club is very appreciative and thankful to the wonderful members and supporters of the club,” he said.
“The Gawler track will now enjoy a small break before racing again on Wednesday, May 13.”
