Xavier Two Wells plans given the green light

GAWLER Belt school Xavier College has taken the next step in having its new campus at Two Wells established, with the project gaining development consent.
Adelaide Plains Council’s Assessment Panel (CAP) voted to approve development plans for the proposed campus at its February meeting, which will eventually cater for up to 530 students.
The school, to be built in the Liberty housing development, will be built on a 12.5ha near Meaney Road and Warren Road.
Acting college principal Mark Flaherty was “extremely excited” to see the development consent approved.
“This is an opportunity for us to extend our footprint of providing quality, authentic, affordable, Catholic education in the Salesian tradition and the response from the community so far, has been very positive,” he said.
“Early civil works are nearing completion and once documentation is finalised we will go out to tender late March.
“We are continuing to enrol new students in the school and will be visiting local communities in order to build strong relationships with local families.”
Xavier’s plans include a single school building to be completed in two stages which will eventually provide 19 classrooms, four “maker studios” and breakout spaces for science, home economics and art classes.
A nature play area and bike paths will also be established outside the main school building.
The development is on course for the school’s opening to students at the beginning of 2021 school year and will be one of the first major developments in the area.
Adelaide Plains Mayor Mark Wasley said the council expected information sessions between Two Wells community, school representatives and the council in the near future.
“I have been very impressed by the Xavier College at Gawler,” he said.
“In my discussions with senior college staff, there is a great sense of excitement of what is in store for Two Wells.
“With the Liberty housing development well underway, we will soon see the groundwork and other activities relevant to the new college occurring.”
