XAVIER Tennis Club, in conjunction with Tennis Australia, has launched a new tennis program aimed at getting adults on the court, with no experience necessary.
‘Open Court Sessions’ is described as a “social tennis initiative”, designed to celebrate tennis through exciting new game formats in a commitment-free environment.
Running free-of-charge every Thursday night at the Xavier Tennis Club at Essex Park through February and March at 6pm, the 90-minute session includes food, drinks and plenty of tennis in a casual setting.
Xavier tennis player, and Open Court Session volunteer, Talitha Holme, said the program is the perfect excuse to get a racket in hand.
“Open Court Sessions is for anyone who has ever thought ‘I love tennis, I used to play’ or ‘I want to play tennis again, I just don’t have anyone to play with’,” Holme said.
“Tennis is a much loved sport in Australia and research has shown there are a huge number of ex-tennis players who would be keen to pick up a racquet again, but haven’t felt they could.
“Now they can… it’s a fun option to get back into the sport where the social side is just as important as the on court activities.”
Xavier Saints Tennis Club provide racquets and balls, plus the first Open Court Sessions event will include spot prizes for players who are getting sporty and social.
