HUMMOCKS will be aiming for back-to-back Adelaide Plains A1 netball premierships when it takes on Long Plains in Saturday’s grand final at Two Wells.
The Tigers, who last won the flag in 2016 by beating the Eagles, won the second semi-final against their grand final opponents by just one goal.
Long Plains co-coach Mary-Jane McArdle said she’s expecting a tough game of netball.
“We are very excited to be playing in the grand final on Saturday, this is what we have been working towards for the season,” she said.
“We're really proud of the team and looking forward to representing the Long Plains Netball Club.
“We're expecting another tough game this week and we're confident that we can match it with Hummocks.
“Hummocks are always a strong team to play, we enjoy playing against them and it was good to secure the win to build our confidence going into the grand final.”
Hummocks captain Ash Williams said her side will be trying to play a “more controlled” game following its loss to Long Plains in the second semi-final a week ago.
“We’re not going to let the nerves get to us so much,” she said.
“We’re going to play our game, and hopefully that’s enough.”
However, she believes playing the preliminary final has given her side a bit of confidence.
“Last year we went straight through (to the grand final),” she said.
“This year looks a bit different.
“Obviously, it’s another good opportunity for success and fingers crossed we can go alright.
“We’ve got the same team as last year with some new additions, we’ve been flexible all year.”
Both sides have had players in terrific form, with Stacey Faerhmann a brick in defence for the Tigers, and team-mate Alicia Sharman taking home the Plains Producer Medal.
For Hummocks, Sarah Young and Beth Reid have caused mayhem in the mid-court all year, while Lauren Maxwell has partnered well with Williams under the goal ring.
Prediction: Hummocks by two goals
