Westies down Angle Vale

DESPITE a decent knock from James Kelly, Angle Vale was comfortably beaten by Salisbury West by 87 runs in Para Districts grade one cricket on Saturday.

Westies were bowled out for 253 on day one a week earlier, but the Vale could  only muster 166 in reply following a top order collapse.

Kelly’s 50 was the top score for the day as Aaron Meredith (eight), Jon Pogas (duck), Dylan Wilson (one) and Ash Fry (eight) fell in quick succession.

Tailender Tom Shillabeer scored the next highest total with 18.

Justin Davies was terrific with five wickets, while Steve Wellington took 2/7.

Westies went back into bat for seven overs and lost 5/28.

Meanwhile, Virginia destroyed Eastern Park outright.

Virginia made 244 on day one, and then bowled Eastern Park out for just 45.

Day two only lasted for 20 overs, as the Demons were again rolled, this time for 64.

Tyler Ranaldo took three wickets, while Alex Leo, Anthony Seccafien, Craig Figallo and Nathan Warren all chipped in with a wicket each.

Finally, Parafield Gardens is on the winner’s list after it knocked off North Eastern Knights.

The Knights, in their first grade one match, were bowled out for 206 on day one, and had to hold off Gardens, who were 4/103 overnight.

Despite their best efforts, the Knights’ attack couldn’t do the job, and the Gardens were all out for 222.

The Knights went back into bat and made 3/73, with Peter Atkins unbeaten on 38.

In grade two, Riverside was beaten outright by North Pines.

The Pines made 296 before bowling Riverside out for just 32.

They then enforced the follow on, and again bowled Riverside out, this time for 114.

Brayden Coombs performed admirably with 53, while Josh Colbourne also chipped in with 18.

Jamie Hibbett was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5/30.

In grade three, Angle Vale beat North Pines by 58 runs.

The Pines resumed from 5/116 overnight, chasing 222, but fell short after a middle order collapse.

After an 83-run opening partnership, the Pines then lost 9/81 and were all out for 164.

The Vale went on the hunt for an outright win, making 9/157 before declaring after 26 overs.

The Pines prevented the outright, and made 6/106.

In grade four, Dublin comfortably defeated One Tree Hill by 87 runs.

Dublin made 5/239 on day one before declaring, sending the Billiegoats into bat.

However, they were bowled out for just 152.
