Welshman’s test of endurance
1 min read

MOTORCYCLIST Rhys George has travelled from Wales to take on a fresh challenge this weekend at the 24-hour endurance trial in Eudunda.

The Welshman arrived in the country on the weekend for the event, and will be using a bike from Gawler Motorcycle Centre’s John Davies during the trial.

The event will be a new experience for George, who hasn’t experienced many night events in his home country previously.

“We’ve had a bit of a setup back at home to practice, I’ve been doing a few runs,” he said.

“There’s more concentration needed at night.

“(Riding for) 24 hours will be a bit of a challenge, I’ll pace myself, I think, and try and learn a bit about the track early on.

“It’s an awesome bike, I’m used to a two stroke, but I’ve been practising on the four stroke.

“Thanks to all the sponsors and to John for helping put it together.”

George was challenged to visit Australia for the trial by some local riders, who had previously travelled to Wales for a two-day endurance event.

“We’ve been communicating back and forth between each other,” he said.

“Some of the boys came over last year to do a sidecar challenge.

“I thought this will be a big challenge across the day and night.

“I’m all about a challenge.”

The recent wet weather will make for a testing ride, but George is confident he’ll overcome it and is determined to finish.

“It’s a bit overcast, but coming from Wales, I’m pretty used to it,” he said.

“It’s different, it’s high-paced and rocky stuff.

“Hopefully I’ll have a clear run, finishing will be good.

“It’s a big, new experience, really.”

The trial gets under way at 11am on Saturday at the Eudunda Sporting Complex, with the finish at 11am the next day at the same spot.
