Volunteers growing support for plastic renewal project
1 min read

A GROUP of Barossa volunteers are collecting milk containers and water bottle caps to help create prosthetic limbs for disadvantaged children throughout India and other developing countries.
Co-ordinated by Denise Habermann, the Tanunda ‘Grow Love Community Garden’ was launched in April in conjunction with Envision Hands in Melbourne, which is an environmental
and humanitarian-based project that turns waste into opportunity.
Together with communities, Envision Hands aims to make 100 prosthetic limbs for kids who need them.
Mrs Habermann said she has been overwhelmed by how many people have helped to support the cause locally.
“We are blown away with the amount of caps we have ended up with so far,” she said.
“Everybody has been extremely enthusiastic and very helpful.
“We currently have got three schools in the Barossa getting involved and at least 14 cafés.
“Hewett Primary School has also contacted me as to how they can collect (caps), which is great.
“We are set up at the Tanunda community garden, and have a wheelie bin nearby so people can drop them off too.
“At this stage, we can get them to Victor Harbor Rotary Club, where they can transport them to Melbourne.
“Alternatively, we are hoping a local transport company
will come on board to assist with this.”
Grow Love Community Garden volunteer Bob Modra
said it is easy and simple to save your bottle caps.
“It is important to recycle rather than send them to landfill,” he said.
As well as bottle caps, volunteers are urging locals to save and gather bread tags to be recycled to assist with funding wheelchairs in South Africa.
To donate your collection, visit the Grow Love Community Garden, located on the corner of Magnolia and Menge roads, Tanunda.
