Visitor centre and library take shape
1 min read

REDEVLOPMENT of the Barossa Visitor Centre (BVC) and Tanunda Library is set to deliver engaging new spaces for both the region’s visitors and library customers.

The $220,000 Barossa Council project will see the BVC and library swap spaces, allowing the visitor centre to take advantage of the Murray Street frontage and high level of foot traffic.

The project is supported by the Federal Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package.

Council’s tourism services manager Jo Seabrook said the project would elevate the customer experience.

“While the Barossa Visitor Centre is recognised as one of the best in Australia, we need to constantly evolve our offering,” she said.

“Our mission is to inspire our guests to stay longer, participate in more activities and invest more into our local region.

“This project will allow us to refresh our tourism offering by creating a more engaging and contemporary visitor experience that is aligned with the Barossa brand.”

Key elements of the BVC upgrade include a Barossa video wall and lounge; maker’s table and bar to showcase pop-up winemakers, producers, artists and craftspeople; Barossa wine display; booking pods; expansion of the Barossa Made gift shop; digital displays and improved flow and access.

Library customers will also benefit from refreshed spaces to access the collection and digital technology.

Library and heritage services manager Tania Paull said customers could expect a new layout that provides flexible library spaces, both indoors and outdoors.

“This project will result in a continuation of the range of services at the Tanunda Library, and the community will see a direct improvement in their library experience and interaction through better design, flow and access,” she said.

Library services have currently relocated to the rear of the building as the redevelopment takes shape.

The next stage of the project will see library services temporarily relocated to the Tanunda Community CWA Hall, opposite the BVC.
