FOUR Gawler locals are gearing up for their first-ever Variety Bash while raising funds for children who are disadvantaged, sick, or living with special needs.
The ‘Glamour Eggs’ – comprising Michelle Radford, Tanya Ramsey, Helen Kelly, Roz Corneliusen and Camilla (their car) – will be unmissable in their purple 1978 Holden Commodore when they hit the road for South Australia’s 31st Variety Bash.
Group leader Michelle explained their decision to enter the madcap affair.
“We’re a group of mums from the local area who wanted to give back to our local community while having a bit of fun,” Ms Radford said.
“I told the girls that instead of having a party this year for my 50th birthday, I’d rather
do the Variety Bash.
“We talked about it for a long time, but now we’re finally doing it.”
The eight-day event begins on Saturday, August 10 in Mawson Lakes and concludes on August 17 in Murray Bridge.
Over 100 eccentric cars and more than 300 costumed crew will make their way through remote South Australia to raise funds that will assist children in need.
“We are also highly motivated about making a difference,” Ms Radford said.
“It’s not only a great personal experience, but also an awesome opportunity to help sick kids.”
Variety SA relies on sponsorships and participants to raise money to fund various support programs and provide practical equipment for children.
The ‘Glamour Eggs’ have been fundraising through a range of events including an Easter egg raffle, a quiz night, a movie day, and a ‘karma keg’ at The Exchange hotel in Gawler.
The team has raised almost $14,000 to date.
“We’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our sponsors and individuals who’ve made significant contributions to our cause,” Ms Radford said.
“We’ve been absolutely blown away and almost a little overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the local community.”
Over the past 30 years the Variety Bash has been running in South Australia, the event has raised more than $41 million to help children in need.
