Vandal targets Pioneer Park

PIONEER Park has been the subject of vandalism, however it is not expected to impact upcoming Remembrance Day services.

Vegetation and lawn areas in the park have been damaged and Gawler Council management believe it was carried out intentionally by a member of the public.

Gawler CEO Henry Inat said council had evidence that the area had been intentionally damaged.

“Evidence that conclusively identifies the impacted areas being vandalised has been referred to SAPOL for investigation,” he said.

“Council’s investment in new and upgraded CCTV technology in our parks, gardens and other public spaces has been of great assistance in helping to identify the person involved.”

Mr Inat said that council had been advised that a 62-year-old Gawler East male had been arrested on Friday afternoon in relation to the property damage charges.

He said the male had been refused bail and was set to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr Inat told The Bunyip that the damage to the area was not great enough to have impact on Remembrance Day services held at the location.

“Council understands preparations are underway by the RSL Gawler Sub-Branch for this year’s service,” he said.
