Unbeaten Bombers blitz Tanunda
2 min read

KAPUNDA continued its undefeated run on Saturday, smashing bottom side Tanunda by 55 goals in Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball.

The Bombers entered the game as heavy favourites, as they sit unbeaten atop the table, while the Magpies are languishing in ninth spot with no wins.

Kapunda flexed its muscles from the first quarter, and raced away to a nine-goal lead at quarter-time.

However, things were only getting started for the premiership frontrunners, as they piled on a further 19 goals to six in the second quarter to lead by 22 goals at the main change.

The Bombers were impressive despite being without Penny Chappell, and their second half was relentless.

Kapunda scored 22 goals to three in the third quarter to blow the margin out to 41 goals at three-quartertime.

The Magpies didn’t receive any mercy from the Bombers, as they scored another 21 goals to seven in the final quarter to secure the massive percentage-boosting win.

Kapunda star Tab MacKenzie said her side felt positive coming into the game against the struggling Pies.

“We were confident going into the game and had set some goals to achieve as a team,” she said.

“We had a bit of a slow start, getting used to some different combinations, but after we settled we were able to build as the game went on.

“Sam Mathews was good in goalkeeper, but everyone played their role to contribute to the win.”

The Magpies will have their best chance for a win all season this Saturday as they host Freeling, while the Bombers travel to Nuriootpa.

“We were lucky to get a win against Nuri last time around, so we go in (to this week’s game) knowing that they are a really tough side and we’ll have to be at our best,” MacKenzie said.

Around the grounds

Elsewhere, South Gawler easily accounted for Freeling by 35 goals.

The Lions started perfectly and led by 13 goals at the first break.

The Redlegs attempted to get back into the game, scoring 13 goals in the second stanza, but South had added 17 to extend the lead to 17 goals.

Freeling conceded a further 38 goals to 20 after half-time, and succumbed to another loss.

Meanwhile, Nuriootpa shocked Gawler Central by 12 goals.

Central was hot on a three-game winning streak, which included beating fierce rival South Gawler, but Nuri’s win keeps its top-four race alive.

Finally, Barossa District maintained its winning form by belting Willaston by 29 goals.
