Two Wells puts points penalty behind it to thump Virginia
2 min read

TWO Wells put its round one indiscretion behind it to romp past Virginia by 77 points in Adelaide Plains A-grade football on Saturday.

The Roosters were stripped of their two premiership points from their round one victory over Balaklava after they were found to have fielded a team that exceeded their Allocated Player Points  Allowance for that game.

However, that didn’t hamper the reigning premier as it surged to a 21-point lead at quarter-time against Virginia on the weekend.

The Rams clawed their way back into the contest in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 15 points at the main break.

However, the dam wall eventually broke, and the Roosters booted 10 goals to one after the main change to run out with a percentage-boosting win.

Caleb Edmead slotted five majors, and Luke Barnett chipped in with three.

For the Rams, Brendon Niklaus slotted two as the only multiple goal-kicker.

Two Wells coach Neville Seccafien was satisfied with the victory, particularly after tight second and third quarters.

“It was pleasing considering it was an arm wrestle for most of the day,” he said.

“We had a bit more leg speed and fitness over them,”

“The second and third quarter in the rain, I thought we handled it well.

“We had some good clean hands in that last quarter.”

Seccafien was delighted with his players, in particular Bryce Hart who has stamped his authority on a midfield position.

“Bryce played in the middle, he’s in there because Aaron Dart is injured and he’s relishing the freedom,” he said.

“Ty Hocking was very good and we left him up forward a bit more rather than on the ball.

“Luke Barnett was back, the Eagles released him to come back, he played a forward role and through the middle.

“Shannon Slattery has been good all year, he and Lee Staple probably broke even on the day.

“Staple got on top in the first half, and Shannon levelled the ledger.”

Elsewhere, Hamley Bridge’s woes continued as it was thrashed by Hummocks-Watchman by 198 points.

The Eagles were 114 points up at the main change and refused to take their foot off the Bombers’ throats.

Henry Wright was massive with 13 majors, and Samuel Roads kicked four.

For the Bombers, Hayden Bubner kicked their solitary goal.

Meanwhile, United overcame Angle Vale by 44 points.

The Tigers started well and led by 19 points at the first change, but that lead was cut to just one point at half-time.

However, the Owls resorted to old habits and performed poorly in the third quarter, conceding 7.2 to one behind.

Heath Pym was terrific with five goals for United.

Finally, Mallala defeated Balaklava by 16 points in a tight affair.

The Magpies led by nine points at half-time and maintained a narrow lead all day.

Arran Fox was terrific with four goals, while the Peckers were restricted to just individual goal-kickers.
