TWO Wells will aim to the be the first club since Hummocks United in the early 1970s to win three Adelaide Plains A-grade football premierships in a row, after it booked its spot in the grand final with a seven-point victory over Balaklava in Saturday’s second semi-final.
The reigning champs started the afternoon in style, with star forward Matt Camplin converting in the opening minute.
It looked as if it would be the Roosters comfortably early on, as Michael Knox and Michael Abdilla kicked truly to open up a 17-point deficit.
Fortunately for the Peckers, Shane Moss kicked his first of the afternoon with seconds remaining to ensure his side trailed by just eight points at the first break.
Neither side could gain the ascendancy early on, as the Peckers wasted chances in front of goal, and the Roosters were unable to get forward.
However, that trend soon snapped as Caleb Edmead kicked a major for Two Wells, which was then followed by two from the Peckers to cut the margin to a point.
Harry Gameau then steadied the ship for the Roosters, and they led by six points at the main break.
After the restart it was again all Two Wells, as Abdilla, Edmead and Jamie Humphrys all kicked majors to open up a game-high 23-point lead.
Jason McPharlin kept his side in the contest with a late goal, and the Roosters led by 15 points going into the final quarter.
The last stanza was a cracker, which opened with Balaklava’s Shane Moss kicking his 100th goal for the season, the second time in two years he’s accomplished the feat.
With the wind in their sails, the Peckers were rampant, and two quick goals from Sam Michael put his side in front for the first time.
Camplin then kicked one against the run of play to put the Roosters back up by a point.
However, the momentum was firmly with Balaklava, as Moss again continued to add to his already impressive tally, putting the Peckers back up by five.
Camplin again spoiled the party with a goal, before the two sides engaged in highly contested and tight football, neither side finding the big sticks again until late.
Peter Seccafien was the hero for the Roosters, as he sealed their spot in the decider in a fortnight’s time, while the Peckers will have to face Hummocks-Watchman.
In the B-grade, Two Wells thrashed Hummocks-Watchman by 52 points. Justin Platt kicked four as the Roosters blitzed the Eagles in the final quarter.
Angle Vale came from behind to take the under 17 second semi-final over Two Wells by 42 points.
In the under 15s, Mallala pipped an inaccurate Angle Vale by four points.
