Two Wells ends Owls’ dream start

ANGLE Vale’s incredible unbeaten
start to the Adelaide Plains
Football League A-grade season
has come to an end, courtesy of a
19.21 (135) to 11.5 (71) beating at
the hands of Two Wells.
A tight struggle early, the two
sides went into quarter time tied at
4.2 (26), before the Roosters found
their footing to register 14 scoring
shots in the second quarter - kicking
7.7 - to pull ahead 11.8 (74) to 6.3
(39).
The Owls were never able to eat
into the lead in the second half as
Two Wells rode the support of the
home fans through to the final siren.
Rooster Shannon Slattery was
named best-on-ground, with
the hulking forward bagging
eight goals, while Angle Vale’s
league-leading goal kicker Rob Kovacic
could only snag two.
The result leaves the two sides
tied for second on the ladder at 5-1
from the first six rounds.
In Virginia, five goals from Chad
Norsworthy helped Balaklava to a
convincing 9.2 (56) to 16.13 (109)
win.
Much like Angle Vale, Virginia
was right in the game early, trailing
by just three points at quarter time,
but failed to score at all in the second
term while Balaklava piled on
six majors to snatch a 48-point halftime
margin.
The Rams did play a good third
quarter, kicking 5.1 to narrowly win
the period, but it was just a consolation
as Balaklava was never truly
challenged late on the way to a
53-point win.
Lachlan Michael and Nicholas
Frisby-Smith were named best-onground
for Balaklava, while for the
home side Brendan Niklaus led the
forward line with three goals, and
Brayden Coombs was named the
Rams’ best.
It was a morale-boosting win at
Port Wakefield Oval as Hummocks
Watchman got a chance to put up a
score in its 21.22 (148) to 10.5 (65)
win against United.
12 Eagles got their names on the
scoresheet, led by Josh Studham,
Josh Gould and Nathan Byrnes with
three each.
Jayden Watson bagged five goals
for United in a brave effort up forward,
with teammate Heath Pym
contributing three.
The biggest blowout of the round
came in Mallala, where the Magpies
ran over Hamley Bridge to win
26.14 (170) to 4.4 (28).
Mallala’s dynamic forward duo
delivered again, with Brian Montgomery
kicking six goals and Angus
Bruggemann snagging five,
while Brad Wilson and Will Paynter
were named the Magpies’ best.
Angus Judd was Hamley Bridge’s
only multiple goal kicker, with two,
as he and Hayden Bubner were the
strongest performing Bombers.
