Two Wells confirms favourite status
1 min read

IT was player-coach Matt Camplin who led from the front in Two Wells’ home-opener against Angle Vale, kicking seven of his side’s 26 majors on the way to a 20-goal drubbing.
Straight kicking from the Owls in the first period kept the score respectable early, but the Roosters’ field position and general possession dominance never let up, heading into halftime with a 15-3-93 to 4-2-26 lead in an excellent display of finishing.
The third quarter was one-way traffic, with the home side registering 13 scoring shots to one as the lead blew out to 99 points to begin the last.
To Angle Vale’s credit, its boys didn’t roll over, kicking a few fourth-quarter goals to hit the 50-point mark, but the Rooster juggernaut marched on to claim a 25-14-170 to 8-2-50 win.
Owls coach Troy Treverton said he was pleased with the way the game started, but bridging the gap between the two sides is going to be a long process.
“It was a tough day after the first 15 minutes where we matched them well,” he said.
“Their ball use and ability to spread from stoppage was something we couldn’t stop, but I was happy with how we hunted contested footy.
“Our ball use needs work as they kicked several goals from poor disposals and decisions, but while it was a disappointing day, it was an improvement on the scoreboard from our last encounter… we are improving.”
For the visitors, new arrivals Scott Blundell and Rob Kovacic made an immediate impact, with the former winning more than his fair share of contested footy, and the latter taking a number of contested marks and finishing with two goals.
Shannon Slattery was a standout for Two Wells in a team with four players kicking at least four goals, with the big man nabbing two for himself to go with a stellar game all over the park.
