Trev’s one of a kind
2 min read

THE daughter of late Gawler councillor Scott Fraser has paid tribute to his best friend for the incredible support he showed following her father’s passing.
Shelley Fraser grew up with her dad’s close mate Trevor Lucas, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, and often referred to him as ‘Uncle Trev’ when she was younger.
She said the support she and her mum, Diane, have had from Mr Lucas over the years, particularly following Mr Fraser’s death in 2015, has been overwhelming.
“I’ve known Trev since I was 11,” Ms Fraser said.
“With dad passing, Trev, he has just been absolutely amazing to myself and my family.
“He just knuckles down and does things without any expectation of reward, and the amount of work he does specifically at the Willaston Football Club goes highly unnoticed by most people.
“There’s boys who would have ended up probably in a lot of mischief and trouble if it wasn’t for Trev stepping in.
“He’s a great citizen, great volunteer, and a very dedicated born and bred Gawlerite. “There’s not too many of these blokes around.”
Mr Lucas, who has long been involved with the Donnybrooks, also worked at The Exchange hotel for 18 years alongside Mr Fraser.
The pair were known as ‘Stan and Ollie’, in reference to the comedy duo, during their time at the pub.
“So, there was never Trev or Scott, it was always Stan or Ollie,” Mr Lucas said.
“(It was) ‘that’s a fine mess you got me into Ollie’, or ‘that’s a fine mess you got me into Stan’.
“We did get into a lot of mess, I can guarantee you.”
One of Mr Lucas’ big loves in life are his Donnybrooks, and he said he still loves the club.
“I was only born down in Paxton Street, 100 metres from the Willaston Hotel,” he said
“I just enjoy it and I’m lucky I’ve got a wife who allows me to do it.
“If I can make it easier for the people running the club (then that’s great), because I am well aware of how hard it is to run a club.
“I was president from 1991-93; in those days it wasn’t easy, but nowadays you’ve got under 11s and nines, and we’ve got something like over a 100 kids that are 11 and under and now we’ve got women’s’ football.
“If you can play a part helping the people who put their hand up to run the club like the young lads at the moment, it’s great.”
Mr Lucas also runs the Donnybrooks’ Supporters Club, which helps raise funds for the football club, something he has done since the year 2000.
