Tradies’ ‘mighty’ fundraising effort

FOUR Barossa tradies will be participating in the 2019 Mighty River Run as the ‘Jack of all Trades’ group this November.

The event is a five-day boating adventure and fundraiser held on the Murray River in support of Novita and their efforts to help children living with disability and their families.

This year will see participants travel from Murray Bridge to Renmark, with various stops along the way in different towns and homesteads.

Team leader Craig Johnson said the ‘Jack of all Trades’ group was created not only to have fun over the five days, but also to make a difference.

“We all want to have a few days on the river with a group of lads, but we also want to raise funds for kids with disabilities,” Mr Johnson said.

“All my kids and all my mates’ kids are fortunate enough to be healthy and well, but there are plenty of other people around who aren’t quite so lucky.

“We’re doing this for those who are doing it a bit tough, and we hope to raise funds for a good cause.”

The group aims to raise $10,000, with their current total sitting at $6500.

They will be holding a silent auction and wine raffle at Whistler Wines this Sunday in conjunction with the winery’s 20th anniversary and ‘Pfeiffer Fest’.

Items for the auction can be brought along to the event, as well as donations for the raffle, which will all be greatly appreciated by the group.

“People can also make donations through our fundraising page by clicking the ‘Give Now’ button,” Mr Johnson said.

“The more people that know about the 2019 Mighty River Run, the greater the impact, so please spread the word by sharing our page with friends and family.”

Although this is the group’s first time in the Run, the event is entering its 13th year and is the state’s largest and longest floating fundraiser.

Novita are the largest South Australian community-based disability service organisation, providing child development, rehabilitation and disability services to children and young people living with disability, as well as support for their families and carers.
