Town’s Christmas party is back
1 min read

THE date has been set for the 2021 Kapunda Christmas Street Party – and organisers are looking forward to bringing the community together once again.

The street party committee has announced it will hold the annual event on Saturday, December 11, and at a new venue, Kapunda Harness Racing Club.

Committee member Cathy Jones said she was looking forward to putting on an event that returned a sense of normality after the COVID-19 pandemic and that was full of community spirit.

“A lot of things have been cancelled for the town over the past 18 months, so for us, we felt it was important to do something for families,” she said.

“Especially being a regional town, you get to that point where you’ve had a full year of school, full year of farming, harvest and things like that, and it’s a way for the town to let their hair down, relax and celebrate.”

Teaming up with the local harness club will allow the committee to draw on the club’s experience in holding COVID-safe events, as well as provide an enclosed space.

“Unfortunately, the logistics of having it on the main street as we have normally, would be difficult with COVID,” Ms Jones said.

“So we are going to hold it at the Kapunda Harness Club this year. It gives us an enclosed venue but there is still plenty of space for all the rides, for the kids to run around, food vendors and we are looking at face painters and tattoo artists there as well.”

Fellow committee member Bradley Haylock said it would still be everything the town had come to know and love about the street party.

He said there was a large, passionate committee behind this year’s event, backed up by many supporters.

“People are definitely looking forward to there being something at the end of the year again,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to bringing back a sense of normality and community to the town.”

This will be the first time in several years Kapunda’s Christmas event will not clash with the nearby Freeling Christmas Street Party, scheduled for Friday, December 10.
