TRINITY Old Scholars moved to a healthy 3-2 in Adelaide Footy League division six action after a ripping match at Blackfriars Old Scholars’ home ground of St Dominic’s Oval.
With the TOSers entering the match 2-2 and the Hounds coming in 3-1, it was the visitors who started as if it was shot out of a cannon, running up the score early by kicking 7.2 in the first period to lead 44-13.
Trinity captain Dylan Winning said it was a sight for sore eyes after an up-and-down start to the year.
“We started extremely well and played the best footy we’ve played all season with seven goals in the first quarter,” he said.
“Everybody was up for the challenge earl,y especially after one of their players got a red card for punching one of ours.”
All the Trinity good work was undone in the second, surrendering a two-point lead to half time, setting the table for a tight second half.
Both teams continued to score freely in an end-to-end contest, and after leading 78-67 at the final change of ends, the TOSers held on late to prevail 15.7 (97) to 14.8 (92) in an excellent advertisement for the game.
“It was a massive effort by all the boys in the second half to dig deep and get momentum back against the wind and win,” he said.
“They missed a shot after the siren which would have drawn the game.”
Forward Andrew Pounendis was in terrific form, kicking five goals, while Cam Matters kicked four himself and scooped best-on honours.
