1 min read

LIGHT Regional Council’s draft fouryear capital works program has been approved by a council committee, as part of ongoing budget deliberations for 2020/21.
The program is worth $3,424,310 in 2020/21 and more than $14,219,500 over the next four years, and uses in some areas, successful grant funding applications.
Projects forming part of the $430,000 building and structures program include new or upgraded public toilets at Kapunda’s Davidson Reserve, the Roseworthy Recreation Park, Freeling Railway Reserve, and Freeling’s Mattiske Park or skate park site.
“It is the aim of staff to provide a standardised system for the provision of public toilet facilities that includes automatic locking devices with the inclusion of a timer, lock override function to cater for community events, ability to isolate a cubicle and keep locked until a necessary repair can be attended to, and where possible, the provision of a cleaners room with sink,” a report by council’s infrastructure and environment general manager Richard Dodson states.
Meanwhile, the Kapunda Pool will have a $45,000 upgrade, the Greenock Institute will have a kitchen upgrade ($20,000), and various upgrades to council operational sites, including a part roof renewal at the Kapunda office, total $80,000.
In 2020/21, $2,940,143 will be spent on the rural sheeted roads program (including East Terrace, Kapunda, and Oates Road in Ward Belt).
A total of $378,000 will be spent on the sealing of rural roads (including Stonewell Road, Nuriootpa) and $478,078 on township road reseals (including Station Street, Wasleys and Schaefer Street, Freeling).
A total of $314,000 will be allocated to stormwater and bridge works, $130,000 on new footpaths (including remainder of Station Street, Wasleys), $130,000 on stormwater upgrades (Ann/George Street, Wasleys).
The four-year capital works program will be finalised once approved by a full council and as part of approving the 2020/21 budget.
