GOING down by 16 shots to Henley on Saturday, Gawler's division one metropolitan bowls team now sits precariously in ninth place, and running out of games to improve its position.
Although some tight rinks featured, Gawler only managed a draw courtesy of Darren Hunter and his lads.
Now, with only four games remaining, the team will need a big win this week to boost its slim hopes of remaining in this division.
The division four team continued its late-season resurgence with an impressive victory over second placed Modbury.
A 10-shot win to the four of Haycock, Branson, Dinham and skipper Kay Moncrieff set up the nine-shot winning margin against their highly fancied opponents.
Taking all rinks and the 16 points on offer against second-placed Two Wells has consolidated Gawler’s division five spot in the middle of the table, and sees the side sitting only six points out of the top-four.
In the midst of an up-and-down season, Gawler was unstoppable on its home green, with the four of Warland, Godfrey, Roach and Monti finding form after some lean weeks to crush their opponents by 23 shots.
Taking the day by 41 shots, it now looks to string two good performances together and gets the opportunity this week when it hosts lower ranked Prospect Broadview.
Although unable to secure a win, the division six team made home side, and second placed, Rosewater earn their victory.
Pushing the higher ranked team, Gawler eventually fell by 15 shots, but the four of Vic Fielden and his boys took their rink by three shots to bank the team two points.
In what would be considered a must-win game against a lower ranked opponent, Gawler's division one ladies got the job done with an eight-shot win over Christies Beach.
With a win, a loss and a draw, it was Dawn Warland's girls who were the standouts, taking their rink by nine shots.
Now moving into fourth place, one shot ahead of fifth placed Semaphore, Gawler will need to be at its best this week when it hosts second-placed Lockleys.
The division four side continued its up and down season when it was soundly beaten by home side Modbury.
Kate Buckley's ladies did themselves proud with a 13-shot rink win, but the team was still 27 shots behind at the close of play.
