Thorpey splashing down in Elizabeth
1 min read

AUSTRALIAN swimming hero Ian Thorpe is set to make a splash in Playford later this weekend when he makes an appearance at Elizabeth’s Aquadome.

The five-time Olympic gold medallist will attend the venue on Sunday, with free entry to the aquatic centre on offer for the public from 1pm-4pm.

Thorpe will be discussing the importance of Learn to Swim programs and the health benefits of swimming for regular Australians.

Playford mayor Glenn Docherty said he was excited to see the former Olympic star in the area.

“Ian Thorpe is an Australian champion and a great role model for young sportspeople, so to have him here at our Aquadome is an amazing opportunity for our community,” he said.

“The Aquadome is part of the Playford Sports Precinct that provides swimming and other aquatic services connecting our talented young people to a sporting pathway.

“Meeting Thorpey could be just the inspiration a young local person needs to aim high and realise their sporting dreams.”

Other Playford Sport Precinct tenants Adelaide United Football Club and the Playford Tennis Centre will also be present, the latter promoting the Playford Tennis International.
