Textile weekend well-received
1 min read

HUNDREDS visited Gawler for the 11th biennial Gawler Textile Art Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, which was hosted at various venues around town.
The event spread across from the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club to the Zion Lutheran Church Hall, the Community Gallery, UCare Hall, the Masonic Lodge Hall, and Kornacraft.
Gawler Quilting Circle secretary Anne Webb said the weekend was a rousing success.
“I think it was better than we expected,” she said.
“We had a steady stream of people, we had lots and lots of good comments about the calibre of the quilt, the patchwork and the variety.
“The variation in colours was great.
“Someone said it’s the best one they’ve ever been to in South Australia.”
While Ms Webb said the committee hadn’t counted the money yet, the amount raised will go towards Fred’s Van and Northern Domestic Violence Group.
“They’re both local and we like to support local charities, we’ve supported Fred’s Van in the past,” she said.
“We also collect books and quilts for them, and because we’re predominately women the domestic violence issue is very dear to women’s hearts.”
The Gawler Quilting Circle held an exhibition of over 130 quilts made by its 60 members, and Ms Webb was delighted with how it all came together.
“We’re a group of 64 people, the members did a fantastic job and we had lots of help from their partners,” she said.
“The committee did a wonderful weekend, and we’d like to say thanks to the other clubs who participated as well.”
