GAWLER & District Tennis Association (G&DTA) grand final matchups are locked in for this Saturday, with Xavier White and Kapunda set to contest the division one title, while Mallala and Tod Street battle it out for the division two crown.
The upcoming weekend is a culmination of a 14-week summer season which saw teams from Kapunda, Lyndoch and Mallala join the already bustling field of local talent.
Division one’s grand final will be a rematch from the semi-final, which saw Xavier White progress with a razor-close nine sets to seven win over Kapunda, which finished with a final games tally of 67-66.
The difference between the sides in that first meeting was Xavier being able to take three of the four mixed doubles sets on offer, as well as three of four men’s singles sets, while the ladies were relatively even.
In division two, Tod Street had to earn its way into the decider against Mallala with two tough wins over Virginia and South Lyndoch in the past couple of weeks, leaning on excellent production from its women which will need to continue this Saturday.
Division three’s grand final between Trinity Old Scholars and Lyndoch will also be a rematch from an earlier final, which Trinity took 9-7.
In that fixture the TOSers appeared to have a slight class edge, taking six of the eight singles sets, including five by at least a three-game margin.
Lyndoch did show excellent chemistry on the doubles side, so evening the ledger in the singles has to be top of the priority list.
All finals will be played at Essex Park from 1pm, with spectators encouraged to come out for a drink, some food and a great day of local tennis.
