LIAM PHILLIPS
XAVIER White has been
crowned Gawler & District Tennis
Association (G&DTA) division
one champions after beating
Kapunda nine sets to seven,
matching the score of the two
sides’ first semi-final.
It was another incredibly tight
matchup between the two best division
one sides for the season,
splitting the men’s singles 2-2,
the women’s singles 2-2, and the
mixed doubles 2-2.
The difference between the sides
was ultimately in the men’s doubles,
where Rob Polito and Francis
Pellizzari won 6-3, and the pair of
Damian McGee and Michael Oermann
won 6-1.
Indi-arna Morris won all three
sets she played for Xavier Saints,
as did Rob Polito and Damian Mc-
Gee.
Mallala won the division two
flag, beating Tod St nine sets to
seven despite losing three of the
four men’s singles sets.
The Mallala ladies made up for
it, taking three singles sets, and
with the sides splitting the ladies
doubles and mixed doubles, the
men redeemed themselves by taking
both doubles sets to lock up the
win.
Daniel Griffiths went undefeated
on the day for the winners, as did
teammate Kelly Jenkin.
Rounding out the action for
the season, Trinity Old Scholars
showed its semi-final win over
Lyndoch was no fluke by repeating
the result in the decider to claim the
division three title.
In attendance on the day were
three of the nine living G&DTA
life members in Rhonda Inwood,
Nat Doudle and Heather Szulc who
enjoyed a terrific day of tennis.
