NEXT week the Barossa will come alive as the Tour Down Under kicks off with the start, and finish line after five loops, in Tanunda. Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said he was proud of how the region is coming together to make Tuesday a special day.

“The town and business sector of Tanunda have really come right behind us in supporting the event,” Mr Lange said.

“We were looking for loops in the valley to keep people in the community, so you’ll notice quite a bit has been organised.”

The day’s proceedings will kick off around 7.30am, when family bike rides and a free community breakfast will be offered.

Local recreation centre ‘the Rex’ is also hosting a spin challenge where people can test themselves in comparison to the professionals racing outside.

“There’s a kids’ activity hub in the town square centre, pop-up barbecues, and all the things we’re renowned for – gin, chocolate, and buskers are going to be in the street,” Mr Lange said.

“People will be able to watch the big screen and follow them all around the circuit.”

The action will be running all morning and through the afternoon, with the presentation ceremony expected to take place at 3pm.

“Then at 4pm there will be something going on in the street for people to come along and enjoy,” Mr Lange said.

“We encourage everybody in the close proximity to come and enjoy the Barossa for a family day’s fun.”
