AARON DEGREEF
TANUNDA continued to display its dominance with a 76-point win over Barossa District in Barossa, Light & Gawler A-grade football on Saturday.
Rushing out of the blocks, both sides appeared deadly from the moment the quarter started.
After a series of minor scores, Barossa’s Ryan Watson opened his side’s account after collecting the crumbs from a pack and converting.
Tanunda’s Josh Trembath immediately retaliated with a goal of his own, before adding a second a few minutes later.
Tanunda player-coach Dean Terlich then scored an easy set-shot, breaking the midfield deadlock that had taken hold.
To top off the quarter, Magpie ruckman Angus Kurtze plucked the footy from the air and banged it through in style to ensure his side led by 22 points at the first break.
In a similar fashion, Barossa opened the second term in style as Jaydn Goodfellow snagged a nice goal early on.
However, Tanunda’s Lachlan Agars replied with two majors of his own alongside Terlich, who kicked his second.
After a brief melee in the back pocket, Brett Dowse ripped through the Dogs’ defence and intercepted a pass, immediately converting it from 40m out.
Luckily for Barossa, Michael Baraglia and William Roberts lifted and capitalised on their opportunities, but not before Leigh Westhoff had again increased Tanunda’s lead with a dribble in front, ending the term on another high note for his side and increasing the buffer to 27 points.
The Magpies came out firing again after the main break as Fraser Smith booted a goal from 50m out.
After some intense pressure from both sides, with the footy zipping back and forth, Tanunda had broken open the Barossa defence as Trembath banged another two home in quick succession.
This was consolidated with a boundary line banana from Stuart Gregory.
Despite Baraglia scoring a late goal, the Dogs trailed by 51 points at the final break.
As the final quarter began, the Magpies flexed their muscles again with an impressive display.
Trembath piled on two more majors, before Kurtze snapped one from close range.
Agars also added two, with one coming off his ankle and still sailing through.
The Bulldogs were no match for the ladder leaders, as Trembath finished with seven and Agars with four.
