Talented twins

FREELING sporting twins Tom and Jess Hahn have taken the senior ranks of football and netball by storm at just 15 years of age.

Tom debuted for the Redlegs’ A-grade side against Barossa District in round one this season, and Jess played her first game for the club’s senior one team the following week against Gawler Central.

Having now played two games in the seniors, Tom said the support he’s received has been terrific.

“It’s been brilliant,” he said.

“The first game I didn’t get much game time, but I didn’t really care because we got the win.

“The second game I played I got a bit more game time, a few touches, and we got the win again.”

The young midfielder/forward said he initially felt “overwhelmed” before being selected for his A-grade debut against the Bulldogs.

“I didn’t know what to think,” Tom said.

“Me, mum and dad all needed to have a conversation to see if they wanted to let me play considering how young I am.”

Tom has also been plying his trade at Central District this season in the under 16 competition.

“I’ve been there for a little while,” he said.

“It’s been pretty good, even though we played seven games and only won one and we didn’t get to play finals.”

While Tom enjoyed two wins from his first two senior games at the Redlegs, his sister Jess was less fortunate, as her side lost to the Tigers.

However, she loved every minute of her time in the senior one group.

“It was amazing, just the rush of going down the court was great,” Jess said.

“To get the support from the other A-graders was amazing.

“I played with some players like the Molo sisters (Larissa and Tara) and Bel Hutchins, which was great as she’s my coach.

“I was quite shocked really (to get the call up), and excited and thought it’d be a great experience.”

Now that Jess has tasted senior one netball, she only wants more of it.

“They have been short some weeks, so they get a few different girls to fit in; I hope I get to fill in a bit more and further my learning, and improve,” she said.

The Redlegs will take on South Gawler this week after having the bye on Saturday.
