Swap meet attracts solid crowd
1 min read

THE 2019 Gawler Caravan and Camping Swap Meet has been and gone for another year, with a good crowd attending the event at Princes Park over the weekend.

Despite still attracting solid numbers, organiser Lance Hatcher said attendances were down on last year.

“Numbers were down and we didn’t fare as well as last year,” he said.

“We did as well as 2017.

“We had a fairly good crowd, I’m just going on dollar returns.

“I think it was to do with how the holidays lined up beforehand; we tried to lock into the first Sunday in May, as that seems to be the most popular.

“We had Easter and Anzac Day one behind the other, and it meant people didn’t put their minds to it.

“I really think that’s part of it.”

Mr Hatcher said one particular area of the meet did impress him, however.

“We did have a very good display of caravans, probably more than we’ve had before,” he said.

“I understand at least one was sold and another had a few enquiries, and they were very pleased to have a lot of interest.

“Generally speaking, the site holders I spoke to were all very happy.

“They were very satisfied with it, we had the right weather, and I think probably again, what was on over the weekend, the AFL match in the afternoon…a lot of people would’ve been going that way.”
