Sustainable Living Festival’s back
1 min read

AFTER having a year off, the Gawler Environment Centre’s (GEC) Sustainable Living Festival will return to Pioneer Park later this month.
The event, which will be held on Sunday, October 27 between 10am and 3pm, aims to inspire the Gawler community to live sustainably, protect the environment, and have fun while doing so.
Guest speakers, hands on workshops, local musicians, and stalls displaying everything from native plants, mushroom kits, ‘upcycled’ arts and crafts, and community energy initiatives will feature on the day.
GEC co-ordinator Kathy Whitta said she was excited about the festival line-up.
“We are very happy to welcome back Simon Bryant from the Cook and the Chef and Tasting Australia, who will do a cooking demo and share his passion for ethical, sustainable foods,” she said.
“Niki Wallace of Almost Zero will be sharing her tips for a low-waste lifestyle, and Mademoiselle Bee will deliver a beekeeping 101.
“There will also be workshops on plant propagation and building bee hotels, Wodli building with Kaurna elder Tamaru Kartinyeri, nature play activities for the kids, and eco-arts and crafts activities at the GEC stall.”
The GEC is a not-for-profit organisation hoping to collaborate with the community to promote sustainability and a thriving environment.
Committee member Sara Loechel encouraged locals to support the festival and a sustainable lifestyle.
“The festival involves a wide variety of community organisations and small businesses from across the region providing opportunities for information
sharing and collaboration, all in a fun, family-friendly environment,” she said.
The GEC is seeking volunteers to help with the running of the festival.
