Surge in new-home approvals

PLAYFORD Council has seen a significant increase of new homes receiving full development approval in the past 12 months.

In the 2020-21 financial year, more than 1300 dwellings were ticked off, with Angle Vale, Munno Para, Munno Para West, Virginia and Davoren Park having the biggest increase.

It’s a jump from 2019-20, which had just 818 approvals.

Other suburbs such as Andrews Farm, Eyre, Blakeview, Smithfield Plains, Hillbank and Elizabeth Downs have seen growth in the past 12 months as well.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the increase was a significant boost for the region.

“The City of Playford is one of the fastest growing council areas in South Australia,” he said.

“Council’s role in managing growth is to build not just a city, but a thriving community.

“Planning for this growth is vitally important and as a council, we support development that is well planned and designed.

“We want growth that is sustainable and creates economic uplift, where new communities are supported by appropriate infrastructure and social services.”

It comes as more housing estates grow around the Playford area, such as Virginia Grove, Miravale in Angle Vale and the $3 billion housing project near Buckland Park, Riverlea.

Speaking to The Bunyip in March, Riverlea general manager Brian Virgo said there was plenty of demand.

“With existing stock being tightly held across Adelaide and its surrounds, buyers are realising they can beat that supply shortage and own a house with a backyard in an amazing master-planned community,” Mr Virgo said.

“Just over a 30-minute drive from the city along the Northern Connector, buyers are seeing the fast progress Walker Corporation is making as our team delivers a vibrant, thriving community and an awesome place for people to call home.”
